Kyumin Kim (김규민)

I am a natural resource economist specializing in marine resource management and the coastal communities that depend on it. My research examines how climate change and environmental shocks affect fishing and coastal communities through the lens of coupled marine ecosystems, and how policy instruments, including restoration, can mitigate those impacts.

More broadly, I work as an applied economist focused on integrated decision-making under uncertainty. My methodological toolkit—stochastic and dynamic optimization, machine learning, and econometrics with a particular emphasis on time series methods—travels well beyond any single domain, and I enjoy bringing it to problems wherever rigorous quantitative reasoning can add value.

I am completing my Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Davis (expected Summer 2026), where I have been a member of the NatuRE Policy Lab and the Kelp RiSES research partnership.

Selected awards:

I currently take on a mix of research and applied projects, and I am always drawn to interesting problems, whether through a consulting engagement, a collaboration, or the right role on a team. If any of this resonates with you, feel free to reach out at kyumin.kim.econ@gmail.com.
